Phone numbers at Oberlin are usually in the form of five digits, or one, then a hyphen, then four more. If you're on campus (e.g. in a dorm room), you can just dial those five digits to call; if you're anywhere else in Oberlin, stick a 77 before those digits. The first of the five numbers for student residences is "6," and "5" for all other college numbers.

For example, a phone number listed as x54321 should be dialed:

• 54321 from on-campus
• 775-4321 from a local phone in Oberlin
• 440-775-4321 from outside Oberlin.

To dial an off-campus but local number from your room, or a toll-free number, dial 7 before the number.

Oberlin's area code is 440. Cleveland's is 216.
