so. how to make a stylesheet for a given wiki page? I know it's not spec to put style in the middle of body, and Wikimedia doesn't seem to like that, but I don't see any other obvious way to do it. --Nhorn 10:34, 15 Mar 2005 (CST)
Well, it's using Monobook.css now, but the presentation still leaves something to be desired, and IE is treating the menu differently than other browsers. Perhaps a · is appropriate in between the links, too. Menu still needs further refinement. --Nhorn
Looks nice. I'm with you on the middot. --Alxndr 07:42, 17 Mar 2005 (CST)
So I want to revisit this sometime soon; if we make the list of links into a real <ul>, will IE respect style attributes to turn it into an inline thing? --Alxndr 20:30, 7 Jul 2005 (CDT)
if your objections to monobook are mostly aesthetic, as mine are, then you might want to take a gander at my personal revisions to it. i haven't checked for validity or browser compatibility or any of that shit - i just tweaked it until i was happier with the design. see User:Jbaer/myskin.css. anyway, fwiw.
p.s. um, for some reason, now that i log in, i'm not getting any style sheet at all - all the formatting is stripped. i don't know what that's about, but looking at the myskin.css file, it looks the same as i left it, so hopefully you won't have the same issue...
p.p.s. a while back, i had a pretty cool idea for a logo, but after a bit of dabbling around in photoshop, i got distracted and forgot about it. too tired to explain the what and why right now, but i'll come back to it later. Jbaer 20:27, 19 Jul 2005 (CDT)
Re objections: what was pissing me off was that same subpage-CSS-not-taking-effect weirdness that's making your user CSS and mine not work, since it meant my changes to MediaWiki:Monobook.css had no effect on how Main Page looked. I haven't had time yet to pester the MediaWiki folks on IRC for an answer on that, but it's damn annoying and I'll get to it soon.
However, inline CSS apparently works. So I made Main Page's links under "Articles" all <ul>ish like I wanted to. However I have a limited number of browsers on this here Linux box so if you've got Mac/Windows, let me know what the category list looks like now. (So far: Firefox on Linux looks right; it's acceptable in Konqueror; I imagine it looks like hell in IE... screenshots are fine and dandy if you know how.)
Re logo: awesome. do come back to it.
