Oberlin Student Health is the free health clinic for Oberlin Students.

Go to Wilder Hall and out to Lorain Street, then walk west past Allen Medical Center. Look for a sign on the south side of Lorain Street that says, Oberlin Health-Counseling Center. They are located in the back half of this modern, stucco building, 247 West Lorain Street.

Hours of operation: 2008-2009
M TH 8:30am - 12:00pm, 1:00pm - 6:00pm
T W F 8:30am - 12:00pm, 1:00pm - 4:30pm
Sat 10:00am - 1:00pm

Walk-in hours for brief encounters dealing with upper respiratory and urinary tract complaints or skin disorders: M T 11:00am - 12:00pm W Th F 1:30pm - 2:30pm

Note: Hours vary during Winter Term and breaks.

[edit] What to do if you are sick on campus

1. During our regular hours call Student Health (440-775-8180) either for an appointment or advice from a medical provider.
2. During evening and weekend hours call the 24 hours nurse line (1-800-322-9679) for advice from a registered nurse.
3. If you think you are having an emergency call security (x58444). They can help you decide if you need to go to the emergency room and will be able to provide transportaton.

Services are provided on an appointment basis. Walk-ins will be evaluated and given appointments or seen immediately based on the urgency of the presenting problem or condition. Students requiring medical care should call for an appointment. Services that are free of charge are listed in the Student Health Brochure. under forms. These services include but are not limited to: Basic laboratory services appropriate to a college population are available, to include rapid strep, urinalysis, and mono testing. Extraneous services including STI testing can be performed for a small fee. Gonorrhea and Chlamydia testing are $30.00, while HIV testing is free and anonymous when done by the HIV Peer Testers Program.

Primary Care
Student Health Services provides primary care and is experienced in treating common medical problems seen on college campuses. We offer initial diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries, and follow-up care.

Specialty Care
On-site specialty care includes certain immunization and allergy services and gynecological health care, including birth control services. All other specialty care is done through a network of local experts available to our staff. The cost of any referrals will be handled through your insurance provider or by yourself.

Allergy Shots
Students may receive allergy shots using the antigen supplied by their allergist along with a copy of the physician's instructions. This must be prearranged by contacting Student Health Services. Immunizations

Preventive immunization services are available including:
Gardisil, Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Influenza (flu), Hepatitis, Rabies, PPD, Meningococcal Meningitis, and Tetanus vaccinations. Other immunizations are available including those needed for international travel and malaria prevention (except for yellow fever) for a reasonable fee.

Pharmacy Services
Pharmaceutical services are provided on a limited number of prescription drugs and over the counter medications. We can also direct you to our local pharmacies for ongoing prescriptions.

Referrals
Referrals to a specialist physician can be made by the Student Health Services' staff. All costs incurred when you see a specialist will be handled through your insurance provider or by yourself. Health Education/Wellness Programming

  • There was an article looking at Student Health in the 3/17 issue of the Grape.
  • Many female students feel that Student Health unneccessarily provides an obscene amount of pregnancy tests, even when students simply think they have the flu.
