Peter Scheiber
Member of the class of 1956.
Inventor of surround sound, and winner of the 2003 Emmy for developing surround sound for TV.
At Oberlin he was a college music major and played bassoon. After graduating, he played with the Ottawa Philharmonic and the Dallas Symphony orchestras, worked for Texas Instruments for a while, and started getting patents as he worked on the concept for surround sound.
