Oberwiki talk:Copyright info
What about files that are under the GNU Free documentation License (such as This photo of the conservatory)? Can I upload them here? Rahnle
Yeah, I suppose so, but then we need to change everywhere it says all OberWiki content is under that CC license... --Xander 12:52, 4 Apr 2005 (CDT)
[edit] Changing the site's license
I just decided to make it CC BY-NC-SA when I started this thing; maybe something else would be better? --Alxndr (18 Jul 2005)
i like CC --jkimmel (24 Jul 2005)
Which one? I'm leaning towards BY-NC... --Alxndr (24 Jul 2005)
with this kind of content, i kinda like the SA clause - how/why would someone use this stuff commercially, and why should we let them? --jkimmel (26 Jul 2005)
I dunno, but I'm worried the SA clause will prevent someone from using it at all instead of researching what the CC license is. I also think all the COPYRIGHT WHOA! stuff all over the bottom of the Edit view is scary, and perhaps putting everything in the public domain wouldn't be so bad... --Alxndr (27 Jul 2005)
I thought about it a little and the GFDL makes sense if it's possible that in the future OberWiki ends up being an awesome enough resource that we'd want to print it out and sell it or something. However switching to the CC BY-SA license would also allow that. --Alxndr 14:12, 17 Aug 2005 (CDT)
I very much like the idea of making it public domain. GFDL is good. On the other hand, I like CC too, so... I think my point is that we have a lot of good options. Which is not helpful at all. --Jwisser 13:24, 17 February 2007 (EST)
I like the CC BY-NC-SA license, but I also wouldn't see any harm in changing to any of the other options. Even public domain seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do. I would prefer, however, that the license not apply to uploaded files A.) because if we have permission to upload an image that is licensed differently, we wouldn't be able to do it and B.) I want to upload my own photos, but I'd prefer to maintain my rights to them. I don't see any reaon why images can't each go under their own license, the same way that wikipedia does it. --Harris 14:39, 6 June 2007 (EDT)
Images can go under their own license. I created that photolicense template to make it easy for people to put BY-NC-SA on their photos, but you could specify anything else you wanted. —alxndr (talk) 15:09, 6 June 2007 (EDT)
