No bike riding on sidewalk

Reminders on the sidewalk.
Reminders on the sidewalk.

Biking, skateboarding and rollerblading on the sidewalks in Oberlin's business district downtown are illegal, and we are reminded by stencils on the sidewalks and signs nailed to lampposts.

For a while, the stencils on the sidewalks were the only evidence of City Ordinance 373.10, and some were unaware that the law also applied to skateboards and rollerblades. Turns out the fine can be around $200, though if you're courteous and only arrived on campus a month ago anyway you might get away with a warning.

Fortunately, the city saw fit to put up signs notifying residents that skateboards and rollerblades are also prohibited.

Unfortunately, now if you ride your bike on the sidewalks you now have no excuse, and it'll run you $140.

This law may also apply to unicycles, but the law itself is a little ambiguous on this one.
