New Union Center for the Arts

The New Union Center for the Arts (NUCA) was named as such on June 21, 1996, when the adaptive re-use of the 1874 "old" Union school building was completed. It is a brick Victorian Gothic building with a white spire at 39 South Main Street, set back from the road, just south of Dave's Army Navy and north of AAA Travel.

The building houses seven arts organizations, including the FAVA Gallery and the Firelands Association for the Visual Arts' related classrooms, and is home year-round to classes offered for HS and younger students via the MAD* Factory and the Oberlin Choristers.

From approximately 1927 to 1961, the building belonged to Oberlin College, and was known as "Westervelt Hall." It was the site of classes in (at least) Geography and Romance Languages from time to time. In recent years, College groups have rarely used the space, although Boredom did perform there.
