Main Library

Oberlin's Main Library lives in the Seeley G. Mudd Center, the four-story concrete cube on the west side of Wilder Bowl.

[edit] Useful facts

  • One of the favorite places to hang out in Mudd is A-Level, the only part of the library where food is allowed. Beverages are allowed in the library only if they are in closed, non-disposable containers. A-level houses a comfy all-night study lounge, a computer lab, the Reserve Room, and CIT. An under-appreciated resource is the Multimedia room in the A-Level computer lab, which includes nice scanners (and computers with Photoshop), dubbing stations (I think), and other goodies.
  • Mudd has these totally awesome round spinning chairs called womb chairs. People usually fall asleep in them, rather than get reading done in them, but they are cozy. Also, you really shouldn't ever try to steal one - a few years ago somebody did for a while, but he wound up with charges brought against him and all kinds of mess that couldn't possibly have been worth it. (Since the chairs are from the 60s and worth a couple thousand dollars, he got charged with grand theft, which is a felony.)

[edit] Art in Mudd

The Reading Girl is a statue that's been in Oberlin's Main Library almost consistently since 1885.
