Lorain National Bank
[edit] Basics
Lorain National Bank (LNB for short) is a local bank that's about 100 years old. Their office is on East College Street, across from the Apollo. They offer many incentives to bank there as opposed to First Merit or the other banks in town; examples include free checking (regardless of balance, there is no service charge to your account), and the fact that unlike First Merit, they don't charge a fee for you to get money at the teller window as opposed to from the ATM.
If you're planning on working for the College, don't let the fact that the College issues its checks through First Merit prevent you from getting an account with LNB; they cash the College's checks just as fast as First Merit does.
They have a new ATM in Wilder, downstairs in the mailroom.

LNB is really great. When I had to take out loans to pay my tuition their loan manager went over the papers with me...even though I was taking a loan out from another bank! Their technical support is very competant and replies quickly to any problems you might have with online banking or direct deposits or anything else. I'd recomend going with LNB. —209.169.106.77 (19:18, 15 November 2007EST)
The people who work at LNB tend to be extremely pleasant and friendly to be around; during my four years banking with them, we've become friends. Unlike a larger national bank, there is a cooperative and neighborly atmosphere inside the bank; it is not uncommon for tellers and customers to carry on conversations and crack jokes while doing business. This doesn't make the bank run any slower than other banks in town, either, as LNB makes a point of always having enough tellers working so that the line doesn't get too long. If I were a new student banking in Oberlin, the only place I would consider as an alternative to LNB is the credit union, and I'd probably still go with LNB. They're good guys (and ladies), and they'll also make some allowances for you and try to cut you some leeway (like the time I was overdrawn and the tellers worked with me so that I didn't have to pay the overdraft fine). They're much better than the [people] over at First Merit. --Anonymous (11 November 2007)
Have been really really nice whenever I've had to deal with them in person. Their ATMs dispense $10 bills. When I signed up with them, I had to fill out a few more forms, so they sent me said forms with a hand-written post-it note attached! It was adorable. —Tevi 00:02, 8 June 2007 (EDT)
I really, really, like this bank. They are always extremely helpful and do things that other banks would never do. While First Merit charges a fee for forgetting to give them a summer address, LNB calls every student account holder in May and asks for a new address. If I go to the branch or call their customer service I get competent people that actually can figure out what is going on with my account. I also have an account with Chase and the difference is remarkable, as a result I let LNB keep much more of my money. Yay Lorain National! By the way, they have an ATM now in Wilder too, though it cannot accept deposits.
