Lorain County Transit

A public transportation system that offers service all around Lorain County. It used to play a vital role getting Oberlin students from the school to the Cleveland airport and back. Following several years of steady fare increases, the Lorain County Board of Commissioners decided to eliminate the airport route (33) effective June 1, 2009. In July of the same year, in response to the cuts, the College arranged a new, daily shuttle service to the Cleveland airport through ACE Transport.

The route 33 pickup points in Oberlin were in front of the Firelands building on Pleasant Street and in front of Carnegie (corner of Lorain and Professor). The bus also made one stop at a park-and-ride lot in Elyria before continuing to the airport.

Students and residents also used the LCT to get into Cleveland and back, by transferring to the Rapid, the rail system run by the RTA.

[edit] May 2009 Cuts

The Lorain County Board of Comissioners' May 21, 2009 resolution cites a predicted funding shortfall of $880,593. In addition to route 33, the board also moved to cut route 70 and all Sunday service. At the time of the resolution, the board planned to hold additional public hearings for additional proposed cuts.

LCT route 21 does continue to run through Oberlin, Wellington, and Elyria.
