J. George Harrar

(b. 1906, d, 1982) Member of the class of 1928, pre-med student and captain of the track team.

Harrar, considered the father of the Green Revolution, led the Rockefeller Foundation's Cooperative Wheat Research Production Program which studied and improved wheat production in Mexico from 1942 to 1952. His team included future Nobel laureate Norman Borlaug, and the work they did changed food production around the world and lead to food security in large portions of Africa, Asia and South America.

He rose through the ranks of the Rockefeller Foundation through the 1950s and served as president of the foundation from 1961 to 1972 (which happened to be during its alleged involvement in the CIA's illegal LSD testing program).
