First-year

Incoming students to Oberlin are known as "first-years", as opposed to "freshmen" or "froshes" or what have you. This may or may not be a result of the campus's general trend away from terms deemed patriarchal. It should be noted, however, that it is not followed strictly, and many still prefer the term "freshmen."
