Fall break
Fall break is wonderful — lots of schools (and some TV stations) have a spring break, and the need for a pause is just as real in the fall semester as the spring. Lots of people go home, some go home with friends or visit family, there is usually some kind of vaguely publicly-advertised hiking or outdoorsy trip, and some students do stay on campus. Note that the dining halls are closed during breaks, so if you're staying, you should try and figure out what you're doing for food. Opinions differ on whether homework should be completed (or assigned) over fall break, and while it can be a useful time to get ahead on some reading or catch up on late work, it's important to leave plenty of time for relaxing activities too.
Most people either use a student-owned car or the LCT or an airplane to get off campus, but see the Transportation page for more details.
