Fairchild Chapel
One of two chapels on campus, the other being Finney Chapel. Located in Bosworth Hall.
Fairchild Chapel is cared for by Oberlin College's Office of Religious and Spiritual Life under the Director of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life. It is one of the College's main sacred spaces and its primary use is for spiritual services and concerts of sacred music.
Fairchild also houses the mean-tone Brombaugh concert organ, as well as a small Flentrop organ. Collegium Musicum and some composition majors may have concerts here.
Over the front door of Bosworth Hall an inscription says, "OF ALL THINGS, TRUTH BEARETH AWAY THE VICTORY." The quotation is from the biblical apocryphal book of First Esdras 3-4, in which Darius asks three courtiers what the strongest thing in the world is, and Zerubbabel answers, "Women are strongest: but above all things Truth beareth away the Victory" (3:12). When Darius agreed with Zerubbabel, he went on to ask Darius to rebuild the Second Temple. (However, it is thought that the second part of the answer was a later addition to the work.)
