[edit] The Major
A major in East Asian Studies consists of one of five programs:
- a broad study of East Asia
- emphasis in Chinese or Japanese studies
- emphasis in a specific discipline (e.g. religion)
- emphasis in Chinese or Japanese language and literature
- emphasis in Korean studies
All programs require four semesters of Chinese or Japanese language study, with at least one year at Oberlin (one year at Oberlin not required for Korean studies program, since we don't offer Korean language); six additional courses (18 hours total), of which no more than two may be additional language courses, at least two must be non-language courses outside the concentration, and one an upper-level seminar; and a capstone project (completion of Honors fulfills the capstone requirement).
